Bio

R. Kipp Miller
American painter and sculptor
(Born 1953, Mount Kisco, New York)

The artist and his work.
With no formal art education, this outsider artist nevertheless grew up in its shadow. "To paraphrase Robert Frost, I took the family art path less traveled by," notes Miller. "My grandmother was a Cooper Union-trained portrait and landscape painter who also designed and produced turn of the (twentieth) century New York City theatre interiors. My sculptor father carved and cast gold dental restorations for the famous—and the infamous. But my work springs almost exclusively from things bruised and broken, overlooked or long forgotten.”

Using only paint and hand tools (if tools are used at all), Miller works to give life’s forgotten fragments a new life. As art to be seen and held. To exist in the light of day, free from the darkness and decay to which it had been consigned. And when the artist’s works are transferred to paper, the resulting photographs are given an entirely different look—and life.
